491 pages plus folded map (complete). Ex-library (the historic Montrose Library in Forfar) copy with consequent label and stamps, use and handling marks. A comfortable copy of this yet to be superseded history of the Anglo-Zulu War. Original boards. The coloured map is by Henry Hall R.E.D. and published by Stanford on January 1st, 1880. The map has handling wear and refolding wear. The back of the map has spots of foxing. The face of the map has sparse smudges of foxing. The colours and printing and ink are bold and fresh. The front pastedown has a small yellow label: 'George Walker - Bookseller & Stationer - Bookbinder - Montrose'. The boards have some shelving wear and knocks. They have shallow wear to the spine seams. The boards are scuffed, rubbed. They are also steady, sound, assured. The contents have occasional shallow pools of foxing. There are handling marks particularly to the early pages and sparsely thereafter. The pages have light user and shelving wear to the edges, and there is evidence of contented use throughout. However, the pages are, especially considering its vintage and resource-value, clean, clear, congenial, sure, tight, the ink bold, comfortable, certain, competent. fk.
