Five issues. A VERY RARE collection of the very earliest issues of the British edition of 'Body Beautiful'. More pointedly aimed at gay men (hence the heavily coded photographs) than other beefcake/ muscle magazines. All of these copies have evidence of ownership, but are otherwise in most pleasing condition. June/ July 1955: Richard du Bois (cover and photospreads, Artie Zeller (cover rear). Other articles include: Star Gazing (the cream of the month), Kurt Mason: Prince of Partners, Rick and Dick: Two Michigan Hercules, Young Man Gone West (Bob Delmonteque), Youth's Body Beautiful. Most photographs come from the AMG stable of photographers. This issue has wear to the cover and some scuffing. The contents are bright, clean, fresh-faced. August/ September: Steve Reeves (cover front), Lou Degni (cover, rear). Other models and articles include: John Weidemann, Sea Fever with Clarence Ross, Leo Robert, Guy Higgins; Westward Ho! Monroe Brown: Master Poseur; Bundle from Britain (Spencer Churchill); Theseus 1955; Robert Fadell: Navy Superman. The covers of this copy have wear, creasing, scuffing and marks. The back cover has a short, narrow surface tear. Whilst some pages have evidence of use, by far the contents are healthy, vigorous, attractive. December/ January: Jack Weisberg (front cover), Leo Robert (back cover). Articles etc include: Prisoner of Dreams, Dover Beach (with Bob Delmonteque), The Lantern of Inspiration (Sandy Alcorn), Canada's Mr Everything (Leo Robert), the regular Youth's Body Beautiful photo-spread, Versatile is the word for Jerry (Riskin) which chronicles Jerry's day from waking, showering to at play. The covers are a little scuffed and worn, but are otherwise secure and sure. The contents are neat, poised and healthy. February/ March: Bob Hover (front cover), Bob Wiensko (back cover). Month's offering included: On Growing Old (with the youthful Steve Wengryn), Bridal Path (with Cliff Oettinger), Stars of the New Year, Waikiki Wonder Boy, Ed Fury, Jim Donovan. Again, the covers of this copy have light wear, scuffing and creasing. The pages too have user creases to the top corners. Otherwise, the contents are fresh, clean, clear, confident. April/ May: Gary Carmody (front cover), Ken Acosta (back cover). The month's contents included: A Madrigal (with Buddy Dean), Peter Gordon, The Esthete Athlete, Friendship Incorporated, Star Maker, Something Old-Something New. A pleasing copy. The covers have minimal wear and marks. The pages are tight, hale, clean, generous.. Our orders are shipped using tracked courier delivery services.
