Inside, the paper spread is cracked along the spine but still holds. The cloth map is in very good condition. There is no damage and what marking there is, is consequent to its age and use. The colours are vibrant; the print bold, the folds muscular and strong. fk

This atlas was the first to be so intentful and determined to survey the continent as comprehensively and culturally explicitly as possible. A strong, venerable and dignified volume with over 800 wonderful wood cut engravings. In general good condition. Quarter bound in leather. The board cover is scuffed, stained from storage and worn. The gilt printing is bright and bold. The leather corners are worn but intact. The spine is worn and cracked but is smart and stately. The six gilt decorative blocks are clear. The binding is as muscular as a sheep-hand. The covers are strong, very firm and healthy. The papertrims have gilt edging that is a little worn but otherwise fresh. The ash front and end papers are whole with some storage markings. There is mild foxing throughout the atlas. The frontis protective sheet is whole but has some foxing. The pages of text are clear and confident. The illustrations are complete and utterly wonderful and finely detailed. The maps are clean, very clear, sharp and absorbing. The coloured maps are bright, fresh and sure. The pages are very firm against the spine. The contents of this volume are: Towns of Victoria; Historical Sketch of Queensland; Topography of Queensland; Historical Sketch of Southern Australia; Descriptive Sketch of Southern Australia; Historical Sketch of Western Australia; Descriptive Sketch of Western Australia; Historical Sketch of Tasmania; Descriptive Sketch of Tasmania.
